DIRECTV has launched a first-month promotion for its MySports Genre Pack, reducing the price to $49.99 from $64.99 ahead of the autumn football season. The offer targets viewers seeking live sports without a conventional cable subscription, as the NFL, NBA and NHL seasons approach and Major League Baseball enters its play-off period.

The package includes more than 20 sports and broadcast networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, TBS, TNT, MLB Network, NFL Network, NBA TV and Tennis Channel, plus local ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC feeds where available. It also includes ESPN Unlimited, normally $29.99 a month; after a five-day free trial and the promotional month, new customers are charged the prevailing rate, currently $64.99 monthly, unless they cancel, with blackouts and local-channel availability varying.

  • DIRECTV cuts MySports to $49.99 for the first month.
  • Package includes major sports networks and ESPN Unlimited.
  • Standard $64.99 monthly price resumes after the promotion.

DirecTV is a US television provider that sells live channels over the internet as well as through traditional satellite services. Its MySports pack is a lower-priced bundle aimed at people who mainly want sports and major broadcast channels, rather than a full cable-style package.

The channels in such bundles carry live games from leagues including the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball, as well as tennis and other events. Rights to show sport are split between networks, so viewers may need several channels to follow a season.

Prices, local stations and access to particular games can differ by area. Some events are also subject to blackouts, which can restrict viewing in certain locations despite a customer having the relevant channel.
