Disney+ And Hulu To Stream Pave Studios True-Crime Podcasts ‘Clues’ And ‘Mother Knows Murder’

Deadline ·

Disney+ and Hulu will stream two true-crime video podcasts from Pave Studios, giving the shows an exclusive day-ahead window before episodes appear on other podcast platforms. The deal marks the first time a major streaming service has picked up titles from Pave’s Crime House label, as platforms look to podcasts to increase viewing and engagement.

Clues, hosted by Kaelyn Moore, premieres next Tuesday and recently won a Webby. Mother Knows Murder, hosted by actor Niecy Nash and her daughter Dia Nash, debuts on 9 November; the pair discuss real cases while reclining in bed. Pave was founded by Max Cutler, previously the founder of Parcast, which Spotify acquired.

True-crime podcasts discuss real criminal cases, often using interviews, records and narrative storytelling. Video versions add a filmed element, while streaming services can make episodes available alongside their other programmes.

Pave Studios is a podcast company founded by Max Cutler, who previously started Parcast, a podcast network later acquired by Spotify. Crime House is Pave’s label for true-crime shows; its programmes are hosted by presenters who examine cases for an audience interested in crime stories.

Disney+ and Hulu are subscription streaming services owned by Disney. Their interest in podcasts reflects competition for viewers’ time and engagement, while podcast makers can reach audiences through both streaming and podcast platforms.
