Dolly Parton’s representatives say she has died following a brief battle with cancer, but a previously undisclosed song will remain unheard until 2046. The track, titled “My Place In History”, was sealed in a time capsule at Dollywood in 2015, creating a notable posthumous milestone in the singer-songwriter’s long cultural legacy.

The chestnut “Dream Box” contains cassette and CD copies of the song, along with players, and is buried beneath Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa. It is scheduled to be opened on 19 January 2046, Parton’s 100th birthday, after the park’s 30th anniversary celebrations; she told Kelly Clarkson in 2022 that she worried the recording might deteriorate before then. Other planned projects include a Nashville museum and hotel, commercial partnerships and a Broadway musical due to open on 19 January 2027.
