Nearly half of sellers consider hiring luxury cars to boost kerb appeal
A survey of 2,000 people found that nearly half of homeowners hoping to sell have considered hiring a luxury car to make their property more appealing. The findings highlight how sellers may use lifestyle cues and kerb appeal to influence buyers, amid a flat UK housing market and falling prices in London and the south-east.
Among property owners, 72 per cent said an expensive car on a driveway would make a home seem more desirable; Mercedes-Benz was considered by 47 per cent, BMW by 43 per cent and Audi by 35 per cent. Buyers also cited fresh flowers (44 per cent), walk-in wardrobes (34 per cent), coffee and freshly baked bread. Most said they form an impression within seconds, with 55 per cent saying a property's exterior strongly affects their decision.
In short
- Nearly half of would-be sellers have considered hiring a luxury car.
- 72 per cent of property owners say an expensive car could boost appeal.
- Buyers often judge a home within seconds of arriving.
Explained simply
Kerb appeal is the impression a home makes from the street, including its exterior and driveway. Sellers may try to improve that first impression because many buyers say they judge a property within seconds.
A home sale can be affected by more than its size or price: buyers may also notice signs of comfort or status, such as a smart car, flowers or a walk-in wardrobe. In a slow housing market, where prices have been falling in London and the south-east, sellers may look for ways to help their property stand out.
