EA cancels unannounced The Sims project, trims the Skate team and plans to lay off 400 workers: “We’re the number one publisher in Western HD gaming”

Eurogamer ·

Electronic Arts has outlined major changes across its studios and game portfolio, including plans to cut about 400 jobs, pause an unannounced Sims project and reduce the Skate team. The moves reflect a shift towards fewer large-scale projects as EA responds to intensifying competition and changing player habits.

The company says it will prioritise Sims project Evergreen while pausing Project Lotus, and make the team working on the early access Skate game smaller. Respawn and DICE will collaborate on a future project, while EA says its Iron Man and third Star Wars Jedi games remain unaffected. The changes follow EA’s move into private ownership in a deal worth about $55 billion.
