EE has introduced Fast Lane, a premium mobile tier leveraging 5G network slicing technology to allocate dedicated bandwidth to subscribers during periods of network congestion. Available through the Full Works Plus plan at an additional £5 monthly cost, the service automatically redirects eligible customers to a dedicated network slice when networks are strained, allowing them to maintain connectivity and streaming capabilities whilst nearby users experience slower speeds.

The service follows Vodafone's earlier 5G slicing deployment but targets individual consumers rather than enterprise sites. Unlike the controversial US fast-lane debate, which centred on prioritising specific apps or content providers, EE prioritises the overall connection quality for paying customers. The UK regulatory environment has shown minimal resistance to the offering, though industry analysts acknowledge it represents a tiered pricing model that some users may perceive as charging premium rates for service levels previously considered standard, particularly in busy locations.
