Ella Langley Just Beat Morgan Wallen’s Billboard Record
Country star Ella Langley's single "Choosin' Texas" has set a new record on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 17 weeks at Number One and surpassing Morgan Wallen's previous 16-week run with "Last Night" in 2023. Wallen, whom Langley is currently supporting on select dates of his Still the Problem tour, remains a close collaborator rather than a rival, and the milestone underlines the continuing dominance of country music on the US charts.
Only three songs have topped the Hot 100 for longer than "Choosin' Texas": Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)", Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You". Langley and Wallen's duet "I Can't Love You Anymore" has also reached Number One on Country Airplay, Wallen's 22nd country hit single, though he was pushed from second to third place on the Hot 100 this week by Ariana Grande. Last week country acts held all of the Hot 100's top five positions, and Langley, whose fanbase includes a group of male fans dubbed "Ella's Fellas", continues her Dandelion tour with a stop in Austin, Texas, on 13 August.

Ella Langley is a rising country singer whose song "Choosin' Texas" has now spent longer at Number One on America's main singles chart, the Billboard Hot 100, than any other country track in recent years. The previous record-holder was fellow country star Morgan Wallen, one of the genre's biggest names, whose 2023 hit "Last Night" had held the mark until now.
Langley and Wallen are not rivals but close collaborators: she is currently supporting him on part of his Still the Problem tour, and the pair also have a duet together that has topped a separate country radio chart. Wallen remains one of country music's most successful current artists, so a fellow country act overtaking his record is notable within the industry.
The wider context is that country music has been enjoying an unusually strong run on the US charts generally, with country songs recently occupying several of the Hot 100's top positions at once. Langley, who has built a dedicated fan following, is continuing her own tour dates as this milestone plays out.
