Kompany recovery will take ‘weeks’ as tests continue

BBC Sport ·

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing at the club’s training ground on Friday. The club expects his recovery to take weeks, with director of sport Max Eberl saying medical examinations are continuing and no timetable will be set until the cause is understood.

Kompany, 40, had recently been unwell with a virus but was on the touchline for Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday. Eberl said the club had considered postponing Sunday’s Bundesliga match at Freiburg, but decided playing could be beneficial; assistant Aaron Danks is handling football operations while Kompany recovers. Bayern are joint top after four wins in their opening six league games and are seeking a third consecutive title.
