‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’ EP Matthew Wright Dies at 52 in ‘Unfathomable Tragedy’; DeGeneres Shares Tearful Video Calling Him the ‘Glue to Our Family’
Matthew Wright, an executive producer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, died aged 52 on 30 October in what a fundraising campaign described as an “unfathomable tragedy”. Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute in a tearful video, calling him “the glue” of the show’s family and remembering his humour, intelligence and kindness.
Wright worked on the programme from 2006 until it ended in 2022. A GoFundMe says he and his husband, Justin, had both been laid off during the summer, and asks for help with the unexpected costs of bringing Wright from Los Angeles to his family in New York, as well as funeral and memorial expenses. Fellow executive producer Andy Lassner also remembered Wright as a brilliant producer and devoted friend.
