Snap settles teenagers’ claims over Snapchat and mental health harm
Snap has settled a lawsuit brought by two teenagers who alleged that using Snapchat contributed to self-harm and other mental health problems. The agreement, reached as jury selection was under way, avoids a trial that was due to begin this month and means chief executive Evan Spiegel will not testify.
The settlement terms were not disclosed. The teenagers had already settled claims against Meta, YouTube and TikTok; in a separate case, a jury ordered Meta and YouTube to pay $6 million in damages. Snap and other platforms still face numerous lawsuits alleging social media addiction and related harms.
