Elliot Anderson has joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for £116m, calling City the “kings of Manchester” and praising their record of winning trophies. The 23-year-old midfielder said he is particularly looking forward to September’s Manchester derby, although his comments may provoke a hostile response from Manchester United supporters.

The transfer, agreed three weeks ago and completed after Anderson returned from the World Cup, runs until 2031 and makes him City’s first major signing under new manager Enzo Maresca. Anderson helped England finish third at the World Cup and led the Premier League last season for touches (3,300), duels won (297) and possession won (306); he joined Forest from Newcastle for £35m in July 2024.
