Elon Musk hit with blue wave of reality after donating historic $445 million to Republicans for midterm elections
Elon Musk spent at least $445.7 million backing Republican candidates and political groups in the US midterm elections, but Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress. The result highlighted the limits of even record-breaking campaign spending and was also described in the article as a setback for President Donald Trump.
Musk’s America PAC targeted 43 House and Senate races with advertising and other campaign activity across 17 states. In Texas, it spent more than $33 million supporting Ken Paxton’s Senate bid, while Musk separately gave $168 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which backed Paxton. Democrat James Talarico defeated Paxton, and Musk joked on X that his “election-interfering space lasers” had not worked.
In short
- Musk gave at least $445.7 million to Republican election efforts.
- Democrats won control of both the House and Senate.
- In Texas, James Talarico defeated Musk-backed Ken Paxton.
