‘Elsinore’ to Receive Gotham Legacy Tribute in Honor of Ian Charleson (EXCLUSIVE)

The Gotham Film & Media Institute will give Focus Features’ “Elsinore” a Gotham Legacy Tribute at its awards ceremony on 30 November. The honour recognises the film’s portrayal of Ian Charleson and the work of Andrew Scott, screenwriter Stephen Beresford and director Simon Stone in bringing the actor’s life and legacy to new audiences.

Charleson, who died in 1990, starred in the Oscar-winning “Chariots of Fire”. “Elsinore” dramatises his AIDS diagnosis and his chance to play Hamlet, with Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn and Joe Locke also starring; Colman plays the doctor who treated Charleson and helped establish a dedicated HIV clinic. After premieres at Telluride and Toronto, where it won the International People’s Choice Award, the film is due for a limited release on 20 November before expanding over Thanksgiving and through December.
