Explained simply
Miami Vice began as a US television series set among the police and criminal worlds of South Florida. Its central characters, detectives Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, worked undercover, with stories drawing on the region’s drug trade and organised crime.
The series became known for pairing crime stories with a distinctive portrayal of 1980s Miami. The film’s title points to that period, while its story is reported to take inspiration from the original show’s pilot and first season.
