Ex-Rep Justin Amash says Mike Rogers ‘would be more dangerous in the US Senate’ than Abdul El-Sayed
Former Republican congressman Justin Amash said Abdul El-Sayed would be less dangerous to individual liberty and the Constitution in the US Senate than Republican Mike Rogers. Amash said he did not vote for either candidate, arguing voters should support only someone they genuinely want in office.
Amash compared El-Sayed’s views with those of Senator Bernie Sanders, who has backed him, and said Sanders’s proposals would be difficult to enact under the US system. He argued that a senator such as Rogers could have greater influence on issues where one vote may decide the outcome, including war powers, surveillance, privacy and government oversight. Rogers is running against El-Sayed in Michigan after losing the 2024 Senate general election to Democrat Elissa Slotkin; former Democratic primary rival Haley Stevens has endorsed Rogers.
In short
- Amash says El-Sayed would pose less risk to liberty than Rogers.
- He did not vote for either candidate.
- He points to senators’ influence on close votes and oversight.
