Former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong has reportedly been accused of avoiding a £7 London Underground fare. Transport for London alleges he used an invalid pass and followed another passenger through a wide-aisle barrier without a valid ticket.

Bassong, 40, says he did not know the pass was invalid because someone else gave it to him, and says he was unaware of the prosecution. TfL claims the pass belonged to an acquaintance, lacked its required photocard and had last been used in October 2025; Bassong was reportedly required to respond by 15 September but had not done so.
