A two-year-old boy named Barrett Mark Walsh was found dead with a rope around his neck in his family home in Illinois on 1 September. His mother, Corie Walsh, aged 40, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The case has drawn attention partly because Walsh was reportedly obsessed with the Lindsay Clancy trial and was messaging friends about the case hours before the alleged incident.

Walsh's defence team claims she was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time, pointing to witnesses describing her behaviour as unusual—including fixed, dilated eyes and an odd demeanour—when found in a bloodied bathtub attempting self-harm with a kitchen knife. The autopsy determined the boy died from asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck. Prosecutors allege Walsh was heavily invested in the Clancy trial and gave confusing statements to investigators, with reports suggesting she believed Clancy's husband, rather than Clancy herself, had killed the children.
