The FBI and Atlanta Police Department have deployed drones as part of a large security operation ahead of the World Cup semi-final between England and Argentina at Atlanta Stadium, aiming to detect potential threats on the ground and in the air. The operation is significant because unauthorised drone flights near major sporting venues pose security and safety risks, prompting federal enforcement of no-fly restrictions during the tournament.

The FBI is enforcing Federal Aviation Administration Temporary Flight Restrictions around the stadium and has already confiscated more than 600 unauthorised drones nationwide since the World Cup began. Marlo Graham, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Atlanta Field Office, is overseeing the agency's efforts as part of the broader nationwide security effort surrounding the tournament.
