FF14’s Naoki Yoshida teases Evolved Black Mage, Zephyr bird dyes, fishing changes, and the end of Poetics in a new Evercold Q&A
Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida answered player questions at Fanfest Tokyo, outlining several planned changes for the Evercold expansion and beyond. His comments included a rework of Black Mage abilities, broader housing customisation and the removal of Poetics, a long-standing in-game currency.
Zephyr players will be able to dye their bird companions, while Black Mage’s Triplecast is set to change and Leylines will allow players to leave and return during combat. A post-Evercold housing update is intended to let almost all furnishings float without glitches; Island Sanctuary updates are also planned after work on version 8.0 settles. Yoshida said the Evercold benchmark is due in early December, and revealed that Dancing Mad Ultimate had an additional phase which was cut for being too difficult and lengthy.
In short
- Black Mage is getting a substantial ability rework.
- Players will be able to dye Zephyr bird companions.
- Yoshida says Poetics will disappear.
