Finucane will ‘come back fighting’ after missing gold

BBC Sport ·

Emma Finucane says she will “come back fighting” after finishing third in the keirin at the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai. The 23-year-old narrowly missed gold for the third time at the event, but says the experience and confidence gained will help her as she targets success at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Finucane was beaten to the line by neutral athlete Alina Lysenko and Germany’s Lea Friedrich, finishing 14 thousandths of a second from the top spot. Her keirin bronze followed silver medals in the team and individual sprints; Great Britain’s team included Rhianna Parris-Smith after Olympic gold medallist Katy Marchant retired. Britain won 12 medals overall, including three golds for Anna Morris.

  • Finucane won three medals in Shanghai, but no gold.
  • She finished 0.014 seconds off the keirin win.
  • Her focus is building towards the 2028 Olympics.
