Five iPhone 18 Pro features you’ll want to try the second you unbox it

Engadget ·

The iPhone 18 Pro introduces significant camera enhancements that empower photographers with greater creative control. The standout feature is a variable aperture lens on the 48-megapixel main camera that adjusts between f/1.48 and f/4, functioning like professional DSLR cameras. Apple has also added new manual controls for shutter speed, focus and white balance — capabilities previously exclusive to specialist photography apps.

The iPhone 18 Pro further refines the user experience with enhanced Photographic Styles featuring grain and texture adjustments for refined image editing. The Dynamic Island has been redesigned smaller to display more screen content when inactive, and can now simultaneously show up to three Live Activities such as music controls, timers and sports scores.

Apple has released the iPhone 18 Pro, its newest flagship smartphone model. The device introduces substantial improvements to photography capabilities and screen display.

The main camera now includes a lens that automatically adjusts its opening to control light entry, similar to professional cameras. Users gain manual control over shutter speed (how long the exposure lasts), focus and white balance (image colour tone)—settings previously available only through specialist apps, not in the standard camera.

The small display notch at the top of the screen, called the Dynamic Island, has been made smaller to show more content. It can simultaneously display up to three live updates such as music playback, timers and sports scores.
