Former MUSHROOMHEAD Vocalist WAYLON REAVIS’s A KILLER’S CONFESSION Reimagines THE WEEKND’s ‘Blinding Lights’
A Killer’s Confession, the alt-metal band led by former Mushroomhead singer Waylon Reavis, has released a stripped-back cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights”. The release marks a deliberate move away from the group’s usual heavy sound, focusing instead on the song’s melody and Reavis’s vocals as the band prepares to conclude its “Victim” trilogy.
Reavis said the positive response to the group’s Nirvana cover “Heart-Shaped Box” encouraged him to record another cover in a contrasting genre. The single precedes the band’s sixth album, “Victim 3”, due this autumn through MNRK Heavy, alongside a 24-date US headline tour from 4 November to 5 December with Dizasterpiece and Dead Things; the “Heart-Shaped Box” video is nearing one million YouTube views.

Waylon Reavis is an American metal vocalist best known for his time with Mushroomhead, a long-running band from Ohio recognised for its masked stage image and heavy, experimental sound. He later formed A Killer’s Confession, which has continued in a similar alternative-metal style.
The Weeknd is the stage name of Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye, whose music combines pop, R&B and electronic influences. “Blinding Lights”, released in 2019, became one of the biggest global hits of the following years, making it a very different kind of song from A Killer’s Confession’s usual material.
Covers can allow artists to present familiar songs in a new musical setting and introduce their work to listeners outside their usual audience. The release also comes as A Killer’s Confession approaches the final instalment of a three-album series called “Victim”.
