Fortnite has revealed a One Piece-themed mini-season, bringing the Straw Hat Pirates to its Battle Royale island after years of fan requests. The crossover is part of Fortnite Treasure Hunters, a season centred on piracy and anime, and is set to begin on 1 November.

The season will have a separate, skull-shaped island, with the Going Merry replacing the Battle Bus. The trailer shows Luffy’s rubber-arm attack, Nami’s tangerines, Usopp’s slingshot and Zoro’s three-sword attack; how some items will work in play is not yet confirmed. Sanji appears to have been spotted in the trailer, but Epic has not announced which characters will be in the passes or Item Shop.

Explained simply

Fortnite is an online game in which players compete on an island, gathering equipment and trying to be the last player or team standing. Its developers, Epic Games, regularly introduce limited-time seasons that change the setting and add characters or items from other entertainment franchises.

One Piece is a long-running Japanese manga and anime about Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they travel in search of a legendary treasure. Luffy can stretch his body like rubber, while his crewmates Nami, Usopp and Zoro each have their own skills and weapons.

Crossovers bring characters and themes from one series into another, giving fans a new way to encounter them and introducing them to a different audience. In Fortnite, a themed season can change the island and add playable content, though not every detail shown in a trailer necessarily confirms what will be available in the game.
