FOX News Media teams up with Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Fox News ·

FOX News Media and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation held a panel during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to discuss research, treatment and the importance of taking an active role in healthcare. Kat Timpf, a breast cancer survivor, said misconceptions can stop people asking doctors questions and urged women to keep up with recommended screenings and speak up about health concerns.

Timpf was diagnosed with Stage 0 ductal carcinoma in situ in February 2025, about 15 hours before giving birth to her first child; she said humour helped her cope. BCRF research director Dr Priya Malhotra said breast cancer rates are rising among younger women, who account for about 10% of cases. BCRF estimates that around one in eight US women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.

In short

  • Timpf urged women to take an active role in their healthcare.
  • She was diagnosed with Stage 0 breast cancer before giving birth.
  • About 10% of breast cancer cases are in younger women.

Explained simply

Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast grow abnormally. Ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS, is an early form in which abnormal cells are confined to the milk ducts; Stage 0 means they have not spread into nearby breast tissue.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a US organisation that funds breast cancer research. FOX News Media is a US news company, and its panel brought together a survivor and a BCRF research director to discuss research, treatment and healthcare.

Breast cancer affects people of different ages, though most cases occur in older women. Screening and speaking with a healthcare professional about symptoms or concerns can help people understand their options.
