Firefighting efforts in southern France and central Spain present a mixed picture as wildfire season intensifies. The Gironde region of southern France remains under threat from an active wildfire, whilst firefighters in central Spain report progress in controlling two major blazes that have been ravaging the region. Both areas now face an additional challenge from an impending heat wave, the fourth to strike the region this summer, which could exacerbate fire conditions and strain already stretched emergency services.
