Frequent James Cameron Star Officially Names Director’s Greatest Sci-Fi Masterpiece [Exclusive]
Michael Biehn has named Aliens as James Cameron’s greatest science-fiction film, praising the director’s writing and the strength of the material given to actors. The actor, who worked with Cameron on The Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss, said the 1986 sequel stands above the director’s other work despite his acknowledged personal bias.
Biehn argued that Cameron’s success with both Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day made later sequels difficult to follow, because other filmmakers lacked his original writing and creative direction. Aliens earned about $131 million worldwide from an estimated $18.5 million budget, received seven Oscar nominations and won for visual effects and sound effects editing; Sigourney Weaver was also nominated for Best Actress.

Aliens, released in 1986, is the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien. It follows Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, as she returns to face the dangerous creatures encountered in the first film, this time alongside a group of space marines.
Michael Biehn played one of those marines, Corporal Hicks, and had also worked with Cameron on The Terminator and The Abyss. The film was both a commercial and critical success, and is often noted for changing the more slow-building horror approach of the first Alien into a larger action-focused story.
