The original *Friday the 13th* will begin streaming on HBO Max on 1 October, ahead of the franchise’s prequel series *Crystal Lake*. The timing allows viewers to revisit Camp Crystal Lake before the new show examines Pamela Voorhees and the events that preceded the original film.

Released in 1980, the film follows counsellors preparing to reopen the camp despite its deadly history and initially presents its killer as a mystery rather than focusing on Jason Voorhees. *Crystal Lake*, starring Linda Cardellini as Pamela, will premiere on Peacock on 15 October as an eight-episode series; HBO Max will also add *Freddy vs. Jason* on 1 October.
