‘Gilmore Girls‘ Star Kelly Bishop to Release First Novel

Kelly Bishop, known for Gilmore Girls and Dirty Dancing, will publish her first novel, Broad Appeal, with William Morrow in autumn 2027. Co-written with bestselling author Ali Rosen, it follows four women in their 70s whose shared home leads to friendship and new beginnings, bringing older women’s lives and reinvention to the centre of a comic novel.

The story centres on Roz, a 78-year-old divorcée whose Upper West Side home is threatened by rising housing costs. She takes in her sister-in-law, a former trophy wife facing financial hardship and a dance teacher she met protesting gentrification; their practical arrangement becomes a chosen family, tested by secrets, money worries and heartbreak. Bishop’s 2024 memoir, The Third Gilmore Girl, was a bestseller.
