Glasgow has featured prominently as a stand-in for New York City in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland. The production highlights the city’s growing appeal to major Hollywood projects, with its architecture and street layout allowing filmmakers to recreate American urban settings.

Much of the film was shot in Glasgow last summer, drawing crowds during an action sequence featuring Holland, and it premiered in London this week. Director Destin Daniel Cretton and producer Amy Pascal praised Scotland and Glasgow’s welcome, while Screen Scotland said the city’s Victorian buildings, wide avenues and grid pattern suit productions of this scale; Glasgow is also expected to double as Gotham City for the next The Batman film.
