Gloria Carlin, ‘Hanoi Hilton’ Actress and Wife of Screenwriter Lionel Chetwynd, Dies at 84

Gloria Carlin, the Montreal-born actress known for appearing in *The Hanoi Hilton* and in films written by her husband, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lionel Chetwynd, has died aged 84. Her death marks the loss of a performer whose career spanned Canadian theatre and television, West End theatre, American film and popular US television series.

Carlin died at her Sherman Oaks home on 5 August, her family said. Her credits included *Goldenrod*, *Two Solitudes*, *General Hospital*, *Cagney and Lacey*, *Knots Landing* and the Emmy-winning miniseries *Joseph*; in 1987’s *The Hanoi Hilton*, she played a member of an American peace delegation visiting a Vietnam prison camp. Born in 1942, she married Chetwynd in 1963 and is survived by him, two sons, four grandchildren and other relatives.
