Spatz defends Owono after collision preceded De Miguel’s death
FC Andorra centre-back Lautaro Spatz has defended goalkeeper Jesús Owono after a collision with Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel preceded De Miguel’s death. Spatz said Owono was deeply affected and would never intentionally hurt anyone; the episode has also prompted online abuse and support for those at the club.
Owono was sent off after rushing from goal and striking the 30-year-old De Miguel, who later suffered a cardiac arrest. Spanish police have opened a routine investigation, while the chief prosecutor said criminal proceedings were very unlikely. Barcelona’s Raphinha said the death made it difficult to play; he scored twice in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, preceded by a minute’s silence.
In short
- Spatz says Owono is deeply affected by De Miguel’s death.
- Owono received online abuse after the collision.
- A prosecutor said criminal proceedings were very unlikely.
