‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Trailer: Soldiers Drop Nuclear Bomb on Godzilla as the Monster Rampages Again
Variety has published details of the newly released trailer for "Godzilla Minus Zero", the latest film in Toho's long-running kaiju franchise and a direct sequel to the internationally successful 2023 film "Godzilla Minus One". The trailer shows soldiers dropping a nuclear bomb on Godzilla as the monster embarks on a fresh rampage, this time targeting New York City. The film matters as the follow-up to a rare Japanese blockbuster that broke into the mainstream and secured a major awards win.
The new movie is set in 1949, two years after the events of its predecessor, continuing the story of the Shikishima family as they confront a fresh calamity, with Godzilla depicted as larger than ever. Writer-director Takashi Yamazaki returns, as do stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe. Its predecessor grossed $116 million worldwide, became the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film ever, and was the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for best visual effects. "Godzilla Minus Zero" is due for release in Japan on 3 November and in the United States on 6 November.
