Marvel Rivals' season 10 update, launching Friday 12 September, introduces Gorr the God Butcher as the game's sole new hero, coinciding with the sudden in-game "disappearance" of Loki, whose Strategist listing now reads as "missing". Gorr, familiar to cinema audiences as the villain of Thor: Love and Thunder, is a Duelist who wields the god-slaying All-Black sword and has been merged with symbiotes as part of his abilities, strongly implying he is responsible for Loki's fate and that further Asgardian heroes may be at risk.

Developer NetEase has confirmed this is the first season to add only one hero rather than the usual multiple, a change made to prioritise ongoing Avengers: Doomsday tie-in content, with two new heroes expected to return in season 11 around November. Yggsgard's Convoy and King of the Hill maps have already been drained of colour ahead of launch, a new Domination map follows on 24 September, and Scarlet Witch is receiving significant kit changes. The update, titled "Butcher's Blasphemy", also brings the Jeff's Dream Eater and Jeff's Superstar Seeking events with Pajama Party skins, plus the long-requested return of the free Costume Coin event.

Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play team-based hero shooter from developer NetEase, built around characters from Marvel comics and films, split into roles such as Duelist and Strategist. The game is regularly updated with new "seasons" that add characters, maps and events, and season 10 arrives on 12 September under the title "Butcher's Blasphemy".

Gorr the God Butcher and Loki are both established Marvel characters. Gorr, previously seen as the villain in the film Thor: Love and Thunder, is a being with a grudge against gods, while Loki is the trickster god familiar from Marvel's Thor and Avengers stories. Their storylines are now being woven into the game itself, with in-game changes hinting that Gorr's arrival has affected Loki's status within the roster.

The wider update matters to players because it marks a shift in how NetEase is running the game: rather than adding several heroes per season as usual, this one adds only Gorr, with the studio prioritising tie-in content for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. It also brings map changes, adjustments to the existing hero Scarlet Witch, and several in-game events.
