Gothic 1 Remake devs hint at next game while announcing a photo mode, “Marvin mode” for cheaters, and some mysterious “alternative progression systems”

Alkimia Interactive, the studio behind THQ Nordic's Gothic 1 Remake, has revealed a slate of upcoming additions during a THQ Nordic publisher showcase, including a photo mode, unspecified "alternative progression mechanics", an official mod kit, and a developer-style "Marvin Mode". The announcement matters for fans of the remake, which has been praised for preserving the atmosphere of the 2001 original while modernising its visuals, as it signals continued post-launch support rather than the game being considered finished.

Marvin Mode, described by Alkimia as "the Gothic equivalent of a developer mode", will let players spawn creatures or items, teleport around the map and perform other cheat-like actions; the name nods to a debug feature from the original Gothic, itself a reference to Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. No release timeline was given for these features, with Alkimia saying they will follow smaller bug-fixing and polish updates first. The studio also teased its next project, due to be formally announced at next year's showcase, with speculation pointing towards a Gothic 2 remake.
