GovTech must keep renewing capabilities, will continue to support retrenched officers: PM Wong
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said GovTech must keep renewing its capabilities while remaining a place where staff can tackle meaningful public problems. He also said policymakers and technologists need to work together earlier and more closely, as technology should inform policy from the outset rather than simply be used to implement decisions.
Mr Wong acknowledged a restructuring that will retrench about 300 workers over two years, and said the Government would support affected staff as they build skills and seek new opportunities. He said technological expertise should spread across the wider public service, while GovTech remains a centre of excellence for complex challenges. The agency was established ten years ago to build up concentrated technology expertise.
In short
- GovTech plans to retrench about 300 workers over two years.
