Green Party at ‘crossroads’, says former co-leader
Former Green Party co-leader Adrian Ramsay says the party is at a “crossroads” after members adopted a motion describing Zionism as a form of racism. He wants the Greens to refocus on their core values and build support among a majority of British voters, warning that a divisive, inward-looking approach could hinder environmental change.
The motion also backed a single democratic Palestinian state across historic Palestine, including modern-day Israel, and prompted criticism from Jewish groups and senior Green figures. Zack Polanski, who did not attend or vote at the conference, has called the motion imperfect and said he wants it amended, while defending its claims about racism and Palestinian displacement. The issue has drawn scrutiny from the Equality and Human Rights Commission and led Labour to threaten to end local council power-sharing agreements unless Green councillors disown the policy.
In short
- Ramsay says the Greens face a choice over their direction.
