Nottinghamshire mother dies after rescuing sons from Bahamas current

Daily Mail ·

Leanne Gregory, 36, from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died while trying to rescue her two sons after a strong current swept them away during a family snorkelling trip near Bimini in the Bahamas. Her sons survived, and her husband, Nathan, called her a “hero”, saying she kept one child above water while she was sinking.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said Gregory was taken to a local clinic after being rescued, but was pronounced dead despite efforts to save her. Police said foul play was not suspected and that an autopsy would help establish the cause of death. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it was supporting the family.
