GTA veteran’s MindsEye studio Build a Rocket Boy has entered administration, following yet more reports of layoffs
Build a Rocket Boy, the studio behind the critically panned shooter MindsEye, has filed for administration following reports of further layoffs. The company, founded by GTA veteran Leslie Benzies in 2016, has struggled since MindsEye's poor launch in June 2025, which the studio's CEO described as "the worst launch in history". This marks a significant failure for a major independent studio's debut game.
The administration filing places the company in statutory moratorium whilst efforts are made to rescue it as a going concern. Build a Rocket Boy reported a £47.5m operating loss and £36.2m net loss for the 12 months ending September, whilst owing creditors £61.8m. Studio leadership has repeatedly blamed the game's poor performance on "organised espionage and corporate sabotage" rather than addressing the critical consensus, which cited inadequate storytelling, writing, mission design, and combat mechanics.
