Gymnast Amankwaah following in Fragapane’s footsteps

BBC Sport · 5 hours ago

Seventeen-year-old Shantae Amankwaah will make her Commonwealth Games debut for England in Glasgow, hoping to follow the path of fellow Bristol gymnast Claudia Fragapane. The youngest gymnast in England’s squad, Amankwaah says the opportunity is surreal and wants to enjoy the experience, while recognising that a medal would be welcome.

Amankwaah, from the Bristol Hawks club where Fragapane began, will compete on uneven bars, beam and floor from Friday. She won the British junior all-around title in 2024 and senior all-around bronze earlier this year; her family also includes former Ghanaian sprinter Rose and ex-Football League player Kevin Amankwaah, who supports her training and competition preparation.
