Nashville musician Hannah Cole has released “Mechanical Bull”, the second song from her forthcoming debut album, Switchbacks. The grungy, frustrated track explores her experience of pursuing a music career alongside her partner while being treated by men in the industry as an accessory rather than an equal.

Cole frames the song around an industry party and a shifting metaphor: she moves from identifying with a mechanical bull to being its rider, before recognising that her apparent control is false. She says making music with her partner helps counter that anger and establish equality; Switchbacks is due on 4 September via Tight Knit.
