A medical examiner’s report indicates that fentanyl and other drugs caused her death, highlighting the continuing risks faced after substance-abuse treatment and relapse.

Panettiere was found unresponsive at an Airbnb after reportedly being seen applying make-up earlier that morning. Investigators found pressed blue pills containing fentanyl, a straw and white powder; Brian Hickerson allegedly administered two doses of Narcan before calling emergency services. The report also described a history of drug, alcohol and nitrous oxide abuse, while her father said she had planned to celebrate her 37th birthday before visiting her daughter in Ukraine.
