HBO and James Gunn Confirm New 8-Part Action True-Crime Series Spinoff

Polygon · 3 hours ago

HBO has given a straight-to-series order for "The People v. Gorilla Grodd", an eight-episode mockumentary-style comedy set within James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe. The half-hour series follows Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen as he investigates whether the superintelligent ape Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City, drawing comparisons to shows such as "The Office" and "American Vandal".

Skyler Gisondo reprises his "Superman" role as Jimmy Olsen, starring alongside Jimmy Tatro as Grodd, with returning cast members Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover and Wendell Pierce. "American Vandal" creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault serve as showrunners and writers, with Yacenda directing all episodes and Gunn and Safran executive producing; the project follows this year's "Supergirl" and precedes 2027's "Man of Tomorrow" in the expanding DCU slate.
