A one-year-old boy, Wilson Matias Jr, was killed after being struck by a vehicle in the driveway of his family home in West Park, Florida, on Monday afternoon. According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the toddler was outside the property when he was hit by a car that was reversing; he suffered serious injuries, was rushed to hospital and did not survive. The case has drawn attention partly because of a distressing photograph taken at the scene showing a pair of small blue baby Crocs left on the driveway.

Investigators from the traffic homicide unit are focusing on a white Chevrolet Suburban, and the driver remained at the scene. Relatives told NBC Miami that the boy's mother, named as Ericka Cante, usually drives a white Chevrolet Suburban, though it remains unclear who was behind the wheel at the time. The vehicle was pictured behind police tape at the front of the property, and the investigation is ongoing. A neighbour said they had never seen the children outside without a parent present.
