A driver in England has been prosecuted for drink-driving, one of the most serious motoring offences. This is illegal because driving whilst under the influence of alcohol significantly increases the risk of accidents.

The UK has strict legal limits for alcohol when driving. In England, drivers must not have more than 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, and exceeding this is a criminal offence that police actively work to prevent.

An officer stopped a vehicle on a motorway after reports of dangerous swerving between lanes. Testing showed the driver's alcohol level was substantially higher than the legal limit, illustrating how public reports can prompt police enforcement of road safety laws.
