Philadelphia four piece Her New Knife have released ‘lyre’, a new song that combines jagged post-punk guitar with ethereal shoegaze textures and a heavy, trip-hop influenced beat. The track marks a fresh chapter for the group and helped propel work on their forthcoming album towards completion.

The song began as an arrangement by Edgar Atencio on classical guitar, which he says renewed his interest in writing and playing music. He describes it as “a simple and beautiful pop song”; the drums nod to UNKLE and Massive Attack, while the glassy, piano-like guitar textures reflect the band’s tastes. The track also features piano, and its lyrics are about loving music.
