How to share your iPhone’s location for just as long as you need
Apple's forthcoming iOS 27 update expands the Find My app's location-sharing options, letting users share their whereabouts with someone for a precisely tailored length of time rather than only choosing between an hour, a day or indefinitely. This addresses everyday situations where fixed durations were either too short or too long, such as sharing your location for a specific outing, a multi-day trip, or a short window while a babysitter is on duty, without needing to remember to switch sharing off afterwards.
Previously, iOS offered sharing for one hour, one day or permanently; the new custom option allows any combination of days (up to 30), hours and minutes, down to a minimum of 15 minutes, or a specific end date and time. iOS 27 also introduces a "Hide Location" feature, letting users temporarily conceal their whereabouts from someone they share with indefinitely, useful for surprises such as gift shopping or unannounced visits, without the other person being notified that sharing has been paused. Both features are already accessible in the iOS 27 public beta, though Apple recommends backing up devices first given the usual risk of bugs in beta software.
- iOS 27 lets users set custom Find My sharing durations, not just fixed options
- Custom sharing ranges from 15 minutes up to 30 days, or a set end time
- New "Hide Location" feature lets users secretly pause indefinite location sharing
