Huawei has launched the Mate XT 2, its third trifold smartphone, in China, and the design shows clear influence from Samsung. The phone abandons the accordion-style folding of previous Mate XT models in favour of an inward-folding design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold, protecting the flexible display from damage, and it becomes the first foldable to offer a privacy-enhancing screen akin to the one found on Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra. The move highlights how closely rival phone makers are now tracking each other's foldable and privacy display innovations.

The Mate XT 2 features a 10.2-inch flexible screen that folds inwards on both sides, alongside Huawei's new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, an IP59 water-resistance rating and a triple rear camera. The optional privacy display, which dims the screen from side angles while remaining visible head-on, is only available with the 16GB RAM/1TB storage configuration and costs an extra ¥1,000 (about $150). The device starts at ¥19,999 (roughly $3,000) and launched today in China, with no word yet on international availability; Samsung's own Galaxy Z TriFold was discontinued shortly after release, though a successor is reportedly in the works.
