Hunter Schafer has said she underwent gender-affirming bottom surgery in December, describing the procedure as a positive experience. The Euphoria actress spoke about it in an interview with Elle, explaining how her understanding of gender and queerness has developed alongside her experience of the world.

Schafer’s recovery lasted into early 2026, and she rented a large apartment where loved ones could visit while she rested. She said she now sees herself simply as a woman, while continuing to reflect on queerness as an idea centred on possibility and growth. In 2024, she said she wanted to move beyond being defined by her transition and had declined some trans roles.
