In 1977, Lars Ulrich heard one of the heaviest songs ever. In 2026, it has still never been played live
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has long admired AC/DC, and singled out their song ‘Overdose’ as one of the heaviest tracks he has heard. The song’s absence from the stage stands out to him because he considers the interplay between guitarists Malcolm and Angus Young especially powerful.
Ulrich said he knew of no live performance of ‘Overdose’ and described it as a favourite deep cut among AC/DC fans. He hoped Axl Rose might prompt the band to play it during the Rock or Bust tour, when Rose joined after Brian Johnson left the tour, but AC/DC did not include it in their set.
In short
- Lars Ulrich calls AC/DC’s ‘Overdose’ exceptionally heavy.
- He says its two guitars make the song stand out.
- AC/DC did not play it during the Rock or Bust tour with Axl Rose.
