In 1987, Stevie Nicks was told she couldn’t appear on a Fleetwood Mac song. Now, it has been heard 2,000,000,000 times

Far Out ·

Stevie Nicks was largely absent while Fleetwood Mac recorded *Tango in the Night*, as her growing solo career made it difficult to attend sessions. Christine McVie said Nicks had been there for only a couple of days during nearly a year of work, so the band made the album without her on several tracks.

McVie recalled telling Nicks she needed to apologise for complaining about her limited role, and Nicks accepted the explanation. The album featured McVie songs including “Little Lies” and “Everywhere”; the article says “Everywhere” has been heard two billion times, while noting Nicks already had major success with “Dreams”.

In short

  • Nicks was absent for most of the *Tango in the Night* sessions.
  • Christine McVie said the album took nearly a year to make.
  • McVie’s “Everywhere” became a major Fleetwood Mac hit.
